Clive Staples Lewis was a British writer and theologian, who held academic positions in English literature at Oxford University and Cambridge University. He is known for multiple fantasy books, including a popular series of novels, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia‘. Clive Staples Lewis was also a close friend of  J. R. R. Tolkien known for the popular fantasy books ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ among others.

C.S. Lewis, was a theologian, and a Christian apologetic, which gives his quote a religiously inspired background. More precisely, the concept of forgiveness, absolution, and starting a new. Also the quote is heavily influenced by how many writers see life, as a book, with a beginning and ending. Writers, deciding to change their stories, would find it easier to just start where they are rather than go back to the beginning an write it all over.
For the quote itself, it stand true in our daily lives, and the entrepreneurial life as well. We can not change the past, but we can work for a better or more satisfying future.
