Welcoming this new year, i would like to quote Benjamin Franklin, an American polymath, a writer, scientist, inventor, statesman, diplomat, printer, publisher, and political philosopher. Among the leading intellectuals of his time, Franklin was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
Benjamin with his statement is presenting an effective personal growth advice.
Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbours, and let every new year find you a better man.
– Benjamin Franklin
- “Be at war with your vices”: You should actively strive to overcome your negative habits or shortcomings (vices). It’s a call to self-improvement and the ongoing effort to eliminate behaviours that can be harmful or counterproductive. It is these vices that often limit your growth.
- “At peace with your neighbours”: It is important to cultivate positive and peaceful interactions with neighbours or, more broadly, with people in your community or social circles. Because conflict will push you backward, and will consume your energy and time, which are better spent on achieving your goals.
- “Let every new year find you a better man”: Continuous self-improvement, is the goal. With each passing year, individuals should strive to become better versions of themselves. It encourages you to reflect on personal growth and the pursuit of positive change.
