Maybe i should not write about a quote by Bill Cosby, given the many sexual abuse charges against him. However, i do believe you should separate the artist from the art, and thus, the quote he said is pretty reflective of the current status of society.

To start, i would like to do a small correction to the statement, so that it would make more sense. It should be Society instead of civilization:
Society had too many rules for me, so I did my best to rewrite them.

These days society do have many rules compared to any other time in history. There are encyclopedia volumes for different legal issues. Now also there are many new rules for men’s behavior. In general we are exponentially growing in bureaucratic complexity, and this will lead one day to a collapse of all this bureaucratic rule system.

I guess in Bill’s case, he tried to rewrite them, simplify, accommodate … It is a sane advice, when possible, however the question is finding the appropriate way to do that.
